If you’ve looked around our blog, you probably have seen tons of sunset elopements in Yosemite. And a lot of them end at Taft Point. Now, if you’re asking yourself if Taft Point is worth all this hype… yes, it is. 99% of sunsets there are jaw-dropping, and this day was no different. If I dare to say, it was probably the most beautiful sunset we’ve ever seen in Yosemite.
The day called for a little rain – just 1/10th of an inch, no big deal. We still had umbrellas and rain jackets, of course, but we weren’t expecting too much rain. Well, the weather forecast was very wrong.
We hiked to Taft Point under POURING rain the whole time. When we made it to the point, we were worried the whole view would be clouded over. Thankfully, that wasn’t the case. We got lucky with some beautiful rolling clouds, so we were happy about that. Whatever happened after that was just a bonus, really.
We asked Kayla and Jordan if they were okay sticking around until sunset (remember we were all soaked and cold), and they were 100% up for it! “We’re already here, we’re not leaving now”. Jordan kept saying he saw on the forecast that the rain was going to clear and, honestly, I was not that optimistic. I thought, sure, MAYBE we get a nice sunset for a hot second, we’ll see.
Well, I was wrong. The weather cleared up at the perfect time and we could not believe what our eyes were seeing! Golden hour lit up the mist, and it was straight-up MAGIC.
