Fresno State Graduation Pictures | Abigail’s Story

Abigail and her fiancé Jonathan found us through Facebook last year and booked us for their Engagement Session. We went to Taft Point, at Yosemite National Park, and we got to witness the most epic sunset ever. If you haven’t seen it yet, check it out here! Abi has one of the most amazing stories ever, and I would love for you to take 2 minutes to read it and understand why these Graduation Pictures were so special.

Abi came to the US for the first time as a child, when Guatemala was going through a Civil War. She and her family lived here until she was 7 and, when it was safe, they returned to Guatemala. She quickly realized that the opportunities for women in science in her country were very, very little. She left her home country and ended up living in Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, and then landed back again in the United States. Living away from your family and your country is not easy, but her dreams were bigger than comfort, and her parents gave her full support.

This year, despite everything that has happened with COVID changing everyone’s plans, we were able to celebrate another huge life event with Abi. She got her Master’s Degree from Fresno State in Biology, and that had to be celebrated, one way or the other! Not only that, but she has also just been accepted into several universities across this country. If there weren’t enough emotions in 2020, Abi and Jonathan are about to move to Utah so she can get her Ph.D. in Molecular Biology at the University of Utah!

She will become the first Mayan woman to get a Ph.D. in Science.

These two are also getting married soon and WE CAN NOT wait to capture their big day! I don’t want to get too emotional here, but it’s times like these that we can’t believe this is our job. We get to meet so many people, hear so many different stories, and even better, we become part of those stories. It’s truly a blessing we won’t ever take for granted.

If you want to check out Abi’s full story, Fresno State wrote an amazing article about her, just click here!

I know this year has been changing way too many plans, to say the least. But there is still time to celebrate! Please contact us if you would like to chat and plan an awesome Graduation Photoshoot, you deserve it!
