If you’re trying to find the perfect place to go down on one knee and ask THE question, allow me to convince you to propose in Yosemite National Park. As Yosemite Photographers, we get the chance to help people from all over the US and the world with planning the perfect proposal in Yosemite. If you have been considering the park for this big moment, here is our quick guide on how to plan the perfect proposal in Yosemite!

Yosemite is a really big Park. Which means there’s no shortage of gorgeous locations to propose in. But thanks to the vast size and the diverse landscape, the forecast in one part of the park might just be vastly different than the weather in another part. Here’s what you can generally expect:

Our personal favorites are: spring and fall – no doubt. Although it’s nice to know there won’t be rain in the summer, we would rather deal with rain (it can actually make your images super cool and unique) than the massive summer crowds. We believe experiencing intimacy and privacy in a place like Yosemite is one of the most amazing feelings, and that’s nearly impossible to experience in the middle of the summer. It can also be quite hot in July and August. Temperatures easily reach 100+ degrees in Yosemite Valley, so other seasons are way more pleasant overall.
Just recently, Yosemite changed its rules regarding photo sessions, and it’s good news! If you’re not having any kind of commitment ceremony (i.e., wedding ceremony, vow, or ring exchange), you do not need to apply for a Special Use Permit. So YAY! All you have to do is plan your trip, hire your photographers, and plan the most perfect proposal ever!

Planning a proposal anywhere is already so exciting! But planning a proposal in Yosemite is even better. I know the size of the Park can be overwhelming, so hiring a local photographer will come in handy. We’ve been working primarily in Yosemite since 2019 and live just 15 min from the gates, and can help you pick your location, choose photo spots, and most importantly – make sure the proposal plan is very detailed!
Here are a few things you can think about while you’re in the process of planning your proposal:
Answering those questions will help us come up with the perfect location and plan for your proposal!
Now comes the fun part. Picking the location to propose in Yosemite! Here are a few of our faves:
Glacier Point: A classic spot with the best views in the park!
Glacier Point is such a popular spot in Yosemite, and it’s not hard to see why. It’s absolutely gorgeous! We love shooting proposals there, but our main tip is: propose at sunrise! Because it’s so easy to access, it starts getting crowded after 9 am, and it doesn’t really empty out until the evening.

Cathedral Beach: A valley location with views of El Capitan next to the Merced River.
This place is amazing! There’s just something about being right next to waterand standing right by El Cap that makes everything more special. But keep in mind, during early spring, this spot might be completely flooded, to the point where there’s no sand, just water. So it’s better to propose here once the river levels have gone down.

Taft Point: An epic cliffside location
Another super popular spot, and let me tell you – it’s worth the hype. Watching the sun setting while standing above Yosemite Valley doesn’t get old. We’ve done this hike hundreds of times, and we don’t get sick of it – and neither do our clients!

Tunnel View: The most famous Yosemite landmark
Tunnel view has got to be one of the most amazing views in the whole world. Because of that, this spot is very popular – yes, even at sunrise. But don’t worry! We have 2 secret spots near this location that will get you the privacy you need to propose!

Lower Yosemite Falls: A dramatic spot complete with a rushing waterfall.
This waterfall is incredible and very easy to access. Because of that, I would highly recommend proposing here early in the morning. It’s important to know that this waterfall is at its fullest during the spring and early summer, after that, it starts to dry out!

These are just a few of our favorites, but we can chat more in detail about them and show you examples of each possible proposal location. We’ve been shooting weddings, proposals, and sessions primarily in Yosemite since 2019, and we’re happy to help!
